There are multiple ways of practicing spiritual direction. Depending on the spiritual tradition, orientation, and method, a person can choose from a wide variety of resources. Spiritual direction is more about accompaniment and less about “direction.” The word “direction” implies telling and, to me, that is not my role. My role is as one who is “walking” with another in a direction, or on a path—their path. As a spiritual guide on a path, our conversations are centered on one’s relationship with God and in a posture of discernment. Together, we listen to the urgings and movement of the Spirit in the context of prayer, reflection, and dialogue.

My practice has been formed by many years as a Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus whose mission is to “make known the love of the Heart of Jesus.” Through this vocational calling, my ministry in spiritual accompaniment takes place with both individuals and with groups. This ministry includes accompaniment with individuals and groups on days of spiritual reflection and retreats.

While I work with individuals and groups representing a variety of theological perspectives and religious traditions, my roots are in the Christian community.

My study in spiritual direction was under the guidance of William Connelly, S.J., Sr. Madeleine and Sr. Mary Boys. My formal studies concluded with a master’s degree in Applied Spirituality from the University of San Francisco. More than a degree, though, my ongoing encounter with God through my community, prayer, retreat experiences and ministry have formed the basis for accompanied others on this remarkable journey.
