Our Circle of Donors

This evening, we gather together for a special Liturgy of Thanksgiving for our Circle of Donors to the 2016 Annual Giving Campaign. At Sacred Heart, we traditionally begin this evening in this chapel with Mass because each of us here has been given a special gift by God—an impulse to generosity which has poured out from God to you as an expression of love for the students in this school. Jesus loved little children and He called them to himself. He said, “...let the little children come to me.” Each of you have received that instinct of Jesus’-- to love, to [...]

With These Rings…

My Sacred Heart ring has gone with me on the journey of my life. When I think of it’s journey on the occasion of this Ring Mass, I realize that the story of this ring tells my story. It has packed and it has moved in its special little case that I received when I bought it to every place that I have lived in my life. Whether on my finger, in my top drawer, or on a shelf in my room, this ring has accompanied me as a symbol of who I am, a symbol of what I believe, [...]

Rounding the Bend of Spring on our Path

The season of Easter brings with it an abundance of joy and hope. Indeed, Christ is risen! Alleluia! Everywhere, we see manifestations of the Lord of Life: our beautiful oak trees are bursting with new spring green leaves as they shed their cloak of pollen in the torrential rains, lilies fragrance homes and gardens, and orchids thrive in the moist welcome of a new season. Nature tells its poignant story. Our children reveal a similar exuberance: delighted by the discovery of candy eggs and the fact of three more days of vacation with family. In the midst of all these joyful [...]

ASH Bakers

[wpvideo m2yHcVD9] With 4 Lower school students, lemons were zested, sugar was measured and eggs were cracked. Flour found its way everywhere. Aprons were tested. Behold! Lemon Poppy Seed muffins rose in the oven to create a mouth-watering mid-morning snack. Our ASH Bakers gathered at the Shannon House Community with their parents last Saturday morning to try their hands at being "sous chefs". Donning embroidered aprons and chef hats, the young chefs mixed and measured until the recipe was completed. Together, we learned  about “everyday math” while converting measurements of ingredients and calculating the amount time needed for the baking. But, [...]

A Courageous Journey in the Night

Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and the end of Christmastide. One of the oldest feasts in the liturgical year, the Epiphany celebrates God's ongoing revelation of Christ to the world. In New Orleans at the Rosary, our gates opened this morning on both campuses to the influx of backpacks and King Cakes from Rouse's, Haydel's and Gambino's to welcome the beginning of this season. With the delicious taste of sugar-coated brioche breads, we "taste and see the goodness of the Lord." (Ps. 34:8) With the second half of the school year beginning [...]
